S. M. Javad Mortazavi Bio:

“Javad Mortazavi is employed in the Medical Physics Department at the Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences (RUMS) where he has been teaching as an assistant professor since 1995. He is also affilated with the National Radiation Protection Department (NRPD) of the Iranian Nuclear Regulatory Authority. He earned his B.Sc. degree from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences , and M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees from Tarbiat Modares University.” end quote.

In previous posts I have studied the theories put forward by S. M. Javad Mortazavi, which are very similar to those advocated by the US Department of Energy Low Dose Radiation research program as published by its contractors Bobby Scott (Lovelace Institute, New Mexico) and Pam Sykes (Flinders University South Australia).

In my previous posts, and in this post, I mean S. M. Javad Mortazavi no disrespect. I am pointing out that, given the political situation between Iran and the USA, and the relationship between and Iran and Japan, the US NRC – in fact the entire US government – may well find itself in a bit of cleft stick regarding information required to answer basic questions about the going on at Fukushima.

As to the official Japanese attitude toward the safety of its ciitzens subject to exposure doses caused by the Fukushima disaster, one can clearly see that qualified sections of Kyoto University (at least) have a view – probably put to and accepted by the Japanese government – that high background levels of radiation are, according to the views of S. M. Javad Mortazavi, beneficial.

Not withstanding the official Iranian and International cancer statistics relating to the high natural background radiation regions of Iran which contradict the views of S. M. Javad Mortazavi, Bobby Scott and Pam Sykes. I have discussed this at length in previous posts. (It not simply a matter of the city of Ramsdar, it involves 3 provinces in the north of Iran).

The situation regarding information interchange between Japan and the US NRC may well be far more fraught than most people would think.

I am not saying Japan and Iran are not free to have friendly relations and constructive ties. I am saying these ties and undertakings are vastly different to those (not) enjoyed by the USA and Iran. If Japan is a nuclear partner with Iran, and if some of the activities undertaken at Fukushima were or are pursuant to this, then the USA would be the last nation on earth the Joint Partners (Japan and Iran) would want to know about them.

As far as I can see. I’m just a voter. (aka mushroom).

Which reminds me. In the Youtube video by Goddard’s Journal regarding the 20mSv limit set by Japanese officials at
http://www.youtube.com/embed/ywKv0dj3UuY there are certain concepts discussed which advocates Radiation Hormesis and Adaptive response would say validates their case. (The rise in risk at very low dose). I have discussed this issue at length in previous posts. The fact is, the nuclear industry would have it that background radiation, in this view is unsafe because it is too low, and hence poses an increased risk. Ergo, Hansford should not be cleaned up (Scott), radiation is like a vitamin (Sykes) and people in the North of Iran are protected (S. M. Javad Mortazavi)

The cancer statistics show that S.M. Javad Mortazavi is incorrect, and the industry demand to pollute the planet because background radiation is “too low” is also shown to be false. Sadly, I believe Japanese school children were force fed contaminated beef etc and people are forced (by lack of evacuation order) by this incorrect view that a protective measure against low dose radiation is to increase the dose of radiation as adovcated by the Radiation Hormesis lobby.

This isn’t 1925, we are not the Radium Girls, but nuclear industry is using the exact same false claim (radiation is good for you ) to discredit the victims of Fukushima, just the industry did in 1925.

In my opinion.

If one really wants to know what went on, and what is going on, at Fukushima, maybe go to Tehran. Or GE Headquaters.

The nail in the coffin of the claims of the supposed protective effects imparted to people living in high radiation areas of Iran is found in this post in my blog: https://nuclearhistory.wordpress.com/2011/08/15/high-levels-of-disease-seen-in-high-radiation-areas-of-iran/

The post cites, among others, the following:

“RELATIONSHIP OF SOIL TERRESTRIAL RADIONUCLIDE CONCENTRATIONS AND THE EXCESS OF LIFETIME CANCER RISK IN WESTERN MAZANDARAN PROVINCE, IRAN, Radiat Prot Dosimetry (2010) doi: 10.1093/rpd/ncq187 First published online: August 6, 2010

“Abstract

The main goal of this study is to lay out the map of the soil radionuclide activity concentrations and the terrestrial outdoor gamma dose rates in the western Mazandaran Province of Iran, and to present an evaluation scheme. Mazandaran Province was selected due to its special geographical characteristics, high population density and the long terrestrial and aquatic borders with the neighbouring countries possessing nuclear facilities. A total of 54 topsoil samples were collected, ranging from the Nour to Ramsar regions, and were based on geological conditions, vegetation coverage and the sampling standards outlined by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The excess lifetime cancer risks (ELCRs) were evaluated and the coordinates of sampling locations were determined by the global positioning system. The average terrestrial outdoor gamma dose rate was 612.38±3707.93 nGy h−1, at 1 m above the ground. The annual effective gamma dose at the western part of Mazandaran Province was 750 μSv, and the ELCR was 0.26×10−2. Soil samples were analysed by gamma spectrometry with a high-purity germanium detector. The average 226Ra, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs activities were 1188.50±7838.40, 64.92±162.26, 545.10±139.42 and 10.41±7.86 Bq kg−1, respectively. The average soil radionuclide concentrations at the western part of Mazandaran Province were higher than the worldwide range. The excess lifetime risks of cancer and the annual effective gamma doses were also higher than the global average.”

I urge the Japanese Government to fully evacuate the civil population from Fukushima.

Such move won’t upset Iran, although it would give GE kittens.
